NZ day 12 Nelson and Kaiteriteri

Bye bye North Island. Today we left Wellington and got the ferry back to the South Island. It was a lovely journey through the Cook Strait with the lush Maori mountains of the Marlborough Sounds, very glad I took the time to see this landscape.

Leaving North Island

We stopped off for a few hours and lunch (Burger King) in Nelson- named after Admiral Lord Nelson. It has the most sunshine than anywhere in NZ but today it rained and we didn't get to see much of it.

We carried on our journey to our stop for tonight Kaiteriteri at the edge of the Abel Tasman National Park. The rain didn't deter us and we went a walk along the golden beach which is a few steps away from our hostel before making our first dinner meal since coming here, we made spaghetti bol, in the busy hostel kitchen with everyone vying for a space at the hob. Had a nice lazy night- it's quite confusing for our body clocks because we are awake about 7am every morning sit on a bumpy bus for up to 7 hours, have a few naps with our heads rolling around the bus, then arrive at our destination to late to do anything full hearted, so have a quick look then it's bed time. We haven't really planned it well but we seen the advert for 20 days trip, but that is actually 20 days minimum, you can spend months going between the places, so even if you did arrive late, you could have days to explore each place.
